With a height of 2962 meters (9,718 ft) (east summit), the Zugspitze is the highest peak in the Wetterstein Mountains, the highest mountain in the Zugspitze massif and at the same time Germany’s highest mountain. Another special feature is that the Zugspitze has its own zip code. The mountain can be reached via three cable cars, the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn and the Seilbahn Zugspitze. Numerous paths lead steeply up, families with children and tired hikers usually end the tour at approx. 1000 – 1500 meters (3,280 – 4,920 ft). The hikers descend strengthened between the beautiful meadows at the foot of the massif, after visiting one of the numerous inns above.
