With an area of 930 km², Rügen is the largest island and one of the most popular holiday regions. Kilometers of fine sandy Baltic Sea beaches, a special and intact nature, as well as the huge chalk cliffs make the island so popular with holidaymakers. It attracts over 1 million visitors annually. There are varied cultural offers as well as exquisite health and wellness offers. However, there is also culture and history on Rügen: Castles, parks and manor houses characterize the glamorous picture of the island. The seaside resorts with their spa architecture and the residential town of Putbus with its white, classicist buildings are particularly famous.
