This is the largest festival in the world with ca. 6 million visitors, most wearing local costumes (Trachten), with a gross of around 1 Billion Euros. It’s sponsored by the city of Munich on the “Theresienwiese” (Theresa’s meadow), and therefore also called the “Wies’n”. It originated with a horse race that took place at the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (after 1825 King Ludwig I) to Theresie of Saxony in 1810. In 2015 the price for a Maß of beer (0.9 Liters) first exceeded 10€ (Euros).
