This is undoubtedly the most famous German Christmas Market with a long tradition. It begins on Friday before 1st Advent and ends on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. Many of the 2 million annual visitors come from abroad, including thousands of Japanese tourists. Originally nearly all the craftsmen of the city decorated the Market. Today it consists of about 180 booths that fill the entire Old City and neighboring streets. In the center stands a giant Nativity Scene with moving figures.
