The life size chalk figures in the West Choir Chamber of the Cathedral of Naumburg exist nearly 800 years now. The figures of Ekkehard, and even more of Uta, convey a lively charm which has made them world famous. Martin Luther ordained the first Lutheran Bishop in Naumburg and Friedrich Nietsche spent the greatest part of his childhood and youth here. Naumburg is the center of the northernmost German wine-growing region of Saale-Unstrut. During a trip to Germany in 1925, Walt Disney was inspired by Uta and passed this on to the evil stepmother of Snow White and the seven dwarfs.
