As early as the Middle Ages, Frankfurt am Main – located right in the middle between the Alps and the North Sea – was one of the most important cities in Germany. It had been an imperial city since 1372, a total of 16 Roman-German kings were elected in Frankfurt. Today, it is one of the most important international financial centers and the most important in Germany. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange, with its electronic Xetra, is the most important stock exchange trading center in Germany. Since 1998 the seat of the European Central Bank has been located here. You can also find the Bafin, the German banking supervisory authority, as well as numerous banks that have their headquarters there, the skyline shows a unique picture.
