The medieval Eltz Castle, which lies in the valley of the Elz River in Rhineland Palatinate, is a well-known castle in Germany. Every year many visitors admire the castle, they get a little insight into the gate of the Middle Ages. It is considered to be one of the few castles that could never be conquered. The castle is still owned by the family to this day, has not been inhabited for a long time. From 1965 until the introduction of the euro, the castle was depicted on the back of the 500 DM banknote. This made it the most famous German castle.
