The Town Hall and the Roland Statue on Bremen’s market square are great examples of Backsteingotik (Brick Gothic) and Weserrenaissance, they are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Bremen is also known for its Bremen Town Musicians, who were created by the Grimm brothers’ fairy tale of the same name. The municipality of Bremerhaven, which belongs to Bremen as an exclave, also offers Germany’s second largest port. With its designation as a Free Hanseatic City, Bremen is the smallest federal state in Germany. Because of Bremerhaven, Bremen is a two-city state that is unique in this form in Germany. Bremerhaven’s Emigration Museum that tells the story of German emigration to the USA provides an interactive experience. Additionally, the museum offers a comprehensive genealogy database that allows visitors to research their own ancestors who may have emigrated from Germany.
