Bonn is one of the oldest cities in Germany, the Roman settlement Bonna was founded here about 2000 years ago. From 1597 to 1794 Bonn was the capital and residence of the Electorate of Cologne, which you can admire in great buildings from that time. The city’s best-known son is the famous composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven. After the end of World War II, Bonn was surprisingly chosen to be the capital of the FRG, although Frankfurt was already counting on win. Bonn remained so until reunification in 1990. This is where the Basic Law was drawn up after the war. Today you can find the headquarters of the DAX companies Deutsche Post and Deutsche Telekom in Bonn.
